At first, I knew there is a field of study "Medical illustration" when I was a student at Hong-Ik University in South Korea. The reason that I decide to study medical illustration after graduating from the first undergraduate is that I wanted to draw rather than design. Because my previous major was Digital media design, I wanted to draw something that would help people little more practical than fine art or general illustrations. So, I searched for various fields where I could draw, and I found a field of medical illustration. In this field, it is essential to have good drawing skills. I am a person who can draw well, I like to draw realistic pictures, so I thought I can do it well. But the problem was to study medicine and science. When I started studying, I felt a little difficult because I had to study science from the beginning. But it was fun. Especially when reading biology and medical papers, the same illness is different from every patient's case. It was fun to get to know each one deeply. There are many different diseases, but the effects of treatment in the body when taking medicine were often similar in the big picture. It was not difficult to understand the big framework for the mechanism. Also, I used to write a lot of computer programs while studying design. I thought that this experience would be much better at starting my current major. So, my current major-medical illustration- includes both my likes and what I do well, so I chose this major. Plus, my major has scarcity and a possibility of becoming a freelancer in the future. These professional features were the reasons why I wanted to be a medical Illustrator. And I want to be a helpful person in the field of healthcare in society. I want to help patients, and people who have a sick friend or family member to solve and prevent health problems. It would be nice to have a lot of medical and scientific educational materials I have created.
